Manuel Groothuysen (Maastricht NL, 1997, he/him) is a Dutch-Iranian performer, composer and director based in Brussels (BE). He creates live performances using two main vessels of expression: the moving human body and electro-acoustic audio. His work lies at the intersection of sound art, performance, physical theatre and music. His current practice focuses on the interaction between technology and human consciousness. Driven by the forces of capitalism, the hyperdevelopment of human technology is reinforcing our identification with the insatiable thinking ego. Manuel works to artistically explore technology’s potential to reconcile humans with their truest consciousness hidden beneath the illusionary identity of the thinking self. Focusing mainly on granular synthesis and live creative coding, electronic audio has taken up a central role in this pursuit. Alongside his individual practice, Manuel makes performances with his sister, Diane Mahín, as the performance collective FADAT.
